For a previously painted pool, the key question is not simply what the surface is made from. It is what is currently on it. Preparation decides the result

Preparation usually involves cleaning, removal of loose or failing paint, and creating the surface profile specified for the chosen coating system. A few practical checks can prevent a disappointing result:
- Test that old paint is firmly bonded rather than lifting at edges or turning chalky under pressure.
- Check for cracks, delamination, moisture concerns and areas where the substrate is deteriorating before coating.
- Remove contamination thoroughly, including residues around waterlines, steps and corners.
- Allow cleaning and preparation stages to dry as required by the coating system.
- Keep leaves, dust, insects and foot traffic away from the prepared surface and fresh coating.

Primer is part of the system, not an optional extra
